Canadian Independent Media in Education Symposium Report: June 2023

Over the last five years, VUCAVU has sought funding and invested time and research into exploring how it can become an educational resource. Within this examination, it became clear that the inclusion of streamable film and video resources from the collections of independent Canadian distributors is greatly lacking at Canadian universities.

LIFT ANNOUNCES TRANSFORMATIONS: A CROSS GENERATIONAL COMMISSIONING PROJECT IN-PERSON AND ONLINE SCREENINGS

In 2021 the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto's (LIFT) celebrated its 40th anniversary as an artist-run organization. As a way to honour that desire for communication we launched "Transformations: A Cross Generational Commissioning Project,"in Fall of 2022, in which five veteran LIFT members were paired with five artists selected from an open call and who were newer to the LIFT community.

A digital strategy initiative supported by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2019, matching funds from the Toronto Arts Council and MITACS Accelerate funding programs as well as many independent programming and content partnerships from 2020–2021. The primary goal was to broaden access to using the VUCAVU platform by art organizations beyond our 8 founding partners and to diversify the ways we can serve the Canadian arts community and their audiences.

VUCAVU's Digital Programming Intern, Stephanie Poruchnyk-Butler, will be leading a free, virtual presentation on March 22, 2022 at 12:00 Eastern. She will discuss methods for incorporating accessibility materials in the distribution, marketing and online exhibition of your work, as well as update the community on exciting updates and changes that have been integrated into the VUCAVU platform. Tickets are free and open to the public.
