VUCAVU.COM | "Artist-driven. Independent. Canadian film, video, and media art on demand."
About VUCAVU
VUCAVU works with independent film and video distributors from across the country to improve access to Canadian artworks and provide greater national and international awareness of our filmmakers, video artists and culture. The VUCAVU.com plateform currently streams about 1,500+ films and videos with an additional 5000+ titles for research purposes that span 50+ years of Canadian moving image art to the public.
VUCAVU.com was developed by the not-for-profit Coalition of Canadian Independent Media Art Distributors (CCIMAD) and launched in 2017. Established in 2013, CCIMAD is a group of independent Canadian film and video distributors with the goal to improve international and national accessibility to their catalogues through a shared digital distribution strategy.
VUCAVU is always working to expand its reach and to develop new partnerships. Our main goals are to invest our resources in creating new online revenue streams and aid in the dissemination of artworks made by independent Canadian artists across the country and to the rest of the world.
VUCAVU.com is a bilingual streaming platform that is unique and multifaceted.
- The public can VOD (view-on-demand) independent film and video art online while knowing that the artists/rights holders retain 70% of the royalties paid through our platform.
- VUCAVU is an accessible platform for arts organizations and groups from all over Canada. We offer sliding scale pricing for online curatorial programming and other streaming services to the arts sector.
- Online programs are often for free for the public to watch for a limited time and artists are always paid screening fees for participating in curated programs on VUCAVU.
- Professional Accounts: Curators and educators can request access to our shared catalogue for programming, research and educational purposes. There are both free and paid options depending on whether this research will lead to paid opportunities for artists (such as public screenings) or if their request is for personal/academic research.
- A unique research tool to learn about Canadian artists of all kinds. Artists have their own profile page that links to their titles on VUCAVU and provides more information about them.
- NEW! The Private Pages function can be used for presentation and educational purposes. They work sort of like a limited-term subscription to a pre-selected collection of works.
- NEW! Launch of VUCAVU.education, educational access technology that connects to library proxy systems and allows for institutional subscriptions. These services will be available with introductory pricing and launched in January 2026.
Canadian filmmakers and video artists who wish to be included on VUCAVU should inquire about distribution with one of our CONTENT partners or email us at admin@VUCAVU.com
