A non-synchronized, two-channel video that brings documentary and essayistic approaches to bear on attitudes towards mental health. Shot on-site throughout the weeks leading up to the closure of the historic Riverview Mental Hospital (a sprawling facility that played a pioneering role in the development of psychiatric treatment in Canada's West Coast throughout the 20th century) these videos incorporate research material, interviews, dramatizations and voice-overs that examine madness and its often contradictory representation in society. The themes of loss, memory and history are taken up in homage to French filmmaker Chris Marker, whose death coincided with the production of this work.
