Laura Terruso is a writer, filmmaker and performer based in New York City. She is the recipient of a 2007 “Culture and Heritage” grant from the National Italian American Foundation for her short documentary THE LAST BUTCHER IN LITTLE ITALY which premiered on PBS and is distributed online through IFC.com. The film has screened at festivals such as Rooftop Films and won a director’s choice award at The Black Maria Film Festival. She wrote and produced the film HIS NAME IS COSMO, which won a number of audience awards, screened at over sixty film festivals worldwide and is currently being distributed by the German company Bildkraft. Laura began performing in downtown New York City venues with the comedy/acapella group The Lesbian Overtones and in drag as the homophobic opera singer from Bensonhurst, Castrato Di Matteo. She holds a BA from NYU in Broadcast Journalism and an MA from NYU in Media, Culture and History.
