Hugo Samson is from Saint-Fortunat, Quebec. While a student at Cégep de Saint-Laurent, he ran as a Rhinoceros Party candidate for the Montreal riding of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve in the 2011 federal election. Red Square on a Black Board is his first feature documentary. He also co-wrote and edited François Gourd’s Fernando Arrabal: grand rectum de l'Université de Foulosophie in addition to being director of photography on the documentary Pouding Chômeur by Bruno Chouinard.
