Bio
Artist Alan Pakarnyk turned to animation as a way to combine his love of colour, motion and drawing. He first used his detailed drawing style in Daydream, winning awards in Chicago, Ann Arbor and New York festivals, and screenings at Cannes and Annecy. With awards from the Canada Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, and the Winnipeg Film Group, he completed Adam’s Dream. Carried Away, for the National Film Board, used mixed-media that anticipated playing with images before CGI. As Artist in Residence at USC in LA, Alan studied computer animation, eventually combining hand-drawn and computer-animated images. Terra, his 3-D IMAX film for the NFB was conceived in 1972 but had to wait for computer technology to create it in 2010.
