Bio

When Carole made her first film in 1992, she was relieved to finally see her eclectic background being put to good use : an honours degree in Fine arts from the University of Manitoba, followed by studies in creative writing, philosophy and theatre. She has since authored 5 short dramas and 2 experimental films. All have played to national and international audiences and sold for broadcast. Her film, Motus Maestro, won the 1997 MMPIA Blizzard Award for Best Short Drama. A recipient of the NSI Drama Prize (1995), Carole is also a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s Director Residence Programme (1998) and of Women in the Director’s chair (1997).

In 2005, Carole was named the Winnipeg Film Group’s Artist-in-Residence; an opportunity to make another experimental film, Home Body, and a chance to explore new skills and themes, precursors to her most recent 30th anniversary commission film, Time Away. One of a small number of active women filmmakers at the Winnipeg Film Group, Carole regularly teaches film directing workshops, and was recently named president of the Board of Directors. Fluent in both French and English, she also freelances as reporter, segment producer and arts columnist for Radio-Canada (French TV and radio). She is also presently developing her first feature script, and the third film of her experimental triptych of films.
