Bio
Greyson first got involved in filmmaking as a documentarian, because of his political activism. "I was living in New York and became involved in the Farm Workers movement and Central American solidarity. I made a documentary about disarmament, and one about the reconstruction in Nicaragua [during the Sandinista period]. I was always interested in the independent documentary tradition, which dates back to Eisenstein and Vertov (you can in fact date it back to whenever you want to), but they were very formative to me. Canada has also always had a strong documentary tradition. When I was coming of age, coming out, and becoming politically active, documentary seemed to be the way to go” (John Greyson).
