Bio

Jong Wook Choi was a product of the Korean Economic Miracle in the 80s; his father was one of the first employees of Hyundai Trade Corporations to be stationed abroad in London UK, where Choi was born.  Choi grew up in England, Korea, Hong Kong and Canada, where he developed a worldly taste for cinema culture. Likewise, his work is characterized by an almost schizophrenic referencing of various cultural codes.  irmaVep is Choi’s first foray into collage stop-motion animation, which he learned from Frances Leeming of Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario, his alma mater where he received a BAH in Film Studies.  Recently, he has given up his former life of drugs, sex and unnecessary parking tickets, and plans to continue his studies at King’s College London UK (MA in Film Studies) in the fall of 2009.
