Catherine Martin studied Cinema and Photography at Concordia University in Montreal. She writes and directs all her films (fiction and documentary). Among them : Nuits d'Afrique (1990) Télébec Award for Best Short or Medium Length Film at 9e Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the 1990 André-Leroux Award for Best Medium Length Film from l’Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma (AQCC), L'Ombre (1992), Les fins de semaine (1995), Les dames du 9e (1998) AQCC-Téléfilm Canada Award for the Best Medium Length Documentary of 1998, Mariages (2001) Best Screenplay Award at the 25th World Film Festival, AQCC Award for Best Feature Film of 2001, one of Canada’s Top Ten 2001, Océan (2002) Special Mention from the AQCC for the Best Medium Length Film in 2002 and one of Canada’s Top Ten 2002, Dans les villes (2006 ) and her first feature length documentary L’esprit des lieux (2006). Her films have been screened at a number of international film festivals like Berlin International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.
