Bio

Working in expanded modes of film and video production, Charlie Egleston (b. Kitchener, Ont., 1973) has been making moving images for the past 20 years. He holds an HBA in Film Studies from theUniversity of Western Ontario (London, Canada) and an MFA in Film Production from York University (Toronto). His films have been shown throughout North America and the world, including IFF Rotterdam,Oberhausen IFF, Media City FF, WNDX FF, Ann Arbor FF, and have been generously awarded by organizations such as the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. He has held numerous committee, jury, and board positions while providing programming and workshops for many film and video events. He currently teaches in the Advanced Filmmaking program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.

A film about seeing and having seen. Completely hand-processed and painstakingly edited, 'SEE/SAW' is comprised of a series of iris fades - commonly found in silent films to signal the beginning or end of a scene - re-appropriated as a formal approach that frames the desire to see and to remember. Dichotomies surface in the high contrast images - opening/closing, beginning/ending, light/dark - it is also a deeply personal film that faces the imminence of not being.
