Bio

Leah Decter is a Winnipeg based intermedia artist and scholar. Her work has been exhibited and screened across Canada and internationally at venues including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Trinity Square Video, the Dunlop Art Gallery, Film Festival Rotterdam, Malta Contemporary Art and the Images Festival in Toronto. Her current work includes social-spatial investigations of contested urban spaces, and decolonial interventions into dominant nationalist narratives. Decter holds an MFA in New Media from Transart Institute and is currently undertaking a PhD in Cultural Studies at Queen’s University.

Imprint

Imprint is rooted in personal and national narratives – stories of refuge sought in a country founded on a Colonial process itself saturated with the displacement. A winter storm insists its presence on an expansive flat plain where a figure performs a ritual in two parts.
