Bio

Phillip Barker is an installation artist, filmmaker and production designer for film and theater. His film-based installations have toured internationally and include a commission by Expo ‘92 in Sevilla, Spain. His films have won numerous awards including Best Experimental Film at The Melbourne International Film Festival, and Best Short Film at The Atlantic Film Festival. His film Soul Cages received a Genie Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. A retrospective of his films and installations was produced by Cinematheque Ontario, at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Canada. His most recent film Malody won Most Creative Film Award, at the 42nd Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma, Montreal. The film also received Best Short Film Award at the 14th International Film Festival, Bratislava, and was chosen as Canada’s Top Ten by the Toronto International Film Festival, 2012.
