Night Circled was made by recording video from online surveillance cameras. The subtitles tell a story of a person searching for darkness and their futile attempts to find a dark place where they can be unseen. I was influenced by reading about the history of streetlights. When they were first introduced, people raised concerns about privacy and being too visible. The parallel between this historical resistance to streetlights and the contemporary distrust of surveillance technologies inspired Night Circled.
